What To Do When You Have No Experience But Want a Data Science Job
I suspect for anyone reading this article, it is frustrating to hear about the shortage of data scientists and still be denied interviews and job offers. From anecdotes I have heard and experienced myself, if you already have work experience as a data scientist, recruiters will reach out to you about data science jobs and hiring managers will take you seriously. This is a problem as it keeps the number of data scientists fixed. So if you do not have experience, you need to find another way to demonstrate your abilities. For some people this can be an educational certification or a bootcamp, but if that isn’t an option for you then you may find yourself lost. Here’s my advice.
To get the attention of reciters and hiring managers, you need concrete examples of your work to put on your resume. This SHOULD NOT be non-scientific journal worthy papers, jupyter notebooks, or descriptions of projects you have done. This SHOULD be deployed public facing web apps of involving data that is interesting to general public or the company you are trying to get a job with.
